Angels in the Architecture (Frank Ticheli)

Performed by the University of Texas Wind Ensemble

This is one of my all-time favorite pieces for wind ensemble! I had the opportunity to actually perform this piece when I was in college as a percussionist. The piece opens with the drone of whirly tubes & wine glasses, followed by a gorgeous vocal melody (sung by Diana Newman) before the full force of the ensemble builds to an intense climax. As an added bonus, Mr. Ticheli himself is actually conducting this ensemble! TIP: Listen with headphones! This piece has a HUGE dynamic range (ppp - fff ) and you don't want to miss any of it!

When "Band Kids" Try Social Distancing

Some bored band kids get together (but not closer than 6ft) to make some music...

Lucky Chops Subway Jam in Herald Square (NYC)

An extraordinarily talented group of young musicians performing in a NYC subway station. Trumpets - can you figure out how to perform the slow glissando you hear throughout this performance?

NoteFlight - Not only is this a place where you can write your own music (and hear the playback!), it's also a huge online community where you can find music that other people from around the world have written or arranged for various instruments. Explore the "Community" section (NOT the "Marketplace") if you want free access to music that others have created & posted.

If you find something you like, send it my way and I'll consider purchasing it for the BLMS band library!
